Ghana and Gabon Deepen Bilateral Ties With New Strategic Partnership

Ghana and Gabon have agreed to strengthen their bilateral relationship after high-level talks between President John Dramani Mahama and Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in Accra.

The two leaders pledged to expand cooperation across key sectors, describing the agreement as the beginning of a new phase in relations between the two West and Central African nations.

The discussions concluded with the signing of agreements aimed at boosting diplomatic collaboration and economic cooperation.

Ghana and Gabon signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during the visit. The agreements cover political consultations and cooperation in diplomatic training.

Officials say the MoUs will strengthen dialogue and improve collaboration between the two countries’ foreign ministries.

The two governments agreed to deepen cooperation in several sectors. These include trade, investment, agriculture, mining, energy, transport, fisheries, tourism, education and healthcare.

The partnership will also cover defence, security, environmental protection and climate action.

President Mahama and President Oligui Nguema stressed the importance of stronger economic ties. They encouraged businesses in both countries to explore new investment opportunities.

The leaders also reaffirmed their support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a tool for increasing intra-African trade.

The two Presidents pledged to continue working together through the African Union and the United Nations.

They discussed regional peace, democratic governance and sustainable development across Africa.

Both leaders also highlighted the importance of stronger cooperation among African states to address shared challenges.

Officials said the renewed partnership reflects a shared commitment to economic growth and regional integration.

They believe stronger cooperation can create new opportunities for businesses, students and public institutions in both countries. The agreements are also expected to strengthen diplomatic relations between Accra and Libreville.

The two governments say they will continue implementing the agreements through regular consultations and joint initiatives.

Officials expect the partnership to support closer political relations while promoting trade, investment and sustainable development across both countries.
