National Service Personnel Give NASPA Two Weeks to Refund GH¢60 Deductions

A group of National Service personnel has given the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) a two-week deadline to refund a GH¢60 deduction from members’ allowances.

The group says NASPA made the deduction without proper consultation. It also argues that many service personnel did not approve the decision.

The personnel want the association to return the money within 14 days. They say they will consider additional action if NASPA fails to meet the deadline.

According to the group, the dispute goes beyond the amount involved. They believe the issue centers on accountability and transparent financial management.

The personnel have asked NASPA to explain why it collected the money. They also want the association to show how it intends to use the funds.

The demand has sparked discussions among National Service personnel across the country. Some members support the refund request. Others prefer dialogue before either side takes further action.

NASPA has previously said it uses members’ contributions to support welfare programs and other activities. The association says those initiatives benefit National Service personnel nationwide.

As of the latest reports, NASPA has not announced whether it will refund the GH¢60. The association has also not issued a detailed response to the ultimatum.

The disagreement has renewed calls for greater transparency in organizations that collect money from members. Governance experts say regular financial reporting can strengthen trust and improve accountability.

They also encourage organizations to consult members before introducing new deductions. Clear communication, they say, can prevent disputes and build confidence.

The National Service Scheme remains an important part of Ghana’s workforce development program. Thousands of graduates complete national service each year before entering the job market.

Many service personnel therefore expect openness in decisions that affect their allowances. They also want leaders to explain how they manage members’ funds.

The two-week deadline has now shifted attention to NASPA’s next move. Stakeholders will watch closely for the association’s response in the coming days.
