Upper West Police Arrest Four Suspects, Recover 17 Stolen Motorbikes in Intelligence-Led Operation

The Ghana Police Service has arrested four suspects after an intelligence-led operation led officers to 17 motorbikes believed to have been stolen in the Upper West Region.

Police announced the arrests in a statement and said the operation forms part of efforts to combat vehicle theft across the region. Officers recovered the motorcycles during the exercise and immediately launched further investigations.

Investigators are questioning the four suspects to establish their roles in the alleged thefts. They are also examining whether the case involves a wider criminal network.

Police are verifying the ownership of each recovered motorcycle. Officers say they will return every motorbike to its rightful owner after completing the verification process.

The operation highlights the Police Service’s continued campaign against motorbike theft. Motorcycles remain an essential means of transport for many residents, especially farmers, traders and commercial riders in northern Ghana.

Law enforcement agencies have stepped up intelligence-led operations in recent years to curb organised crime. Police say these operations help them identify suspects, recover stolen property and disrupt criminal activities more effectively.

The Police Service has urged the public to report suspicious movements and share credible information. According to police, community support plays a key role in preventing crime and improving public safety.

Investigators continue to gather evidence while they examine the circumstances surrounding the recovered motorcycles. They are also checking whether the motorbikes connect to theft cases reported in other communities.

Police have not announced formal charges against the suspects. Under Ghanaian law, every suspect remains presumed innocent until a court determines guilt.

The Police Service says it will provide additional updates as investigators make progress.
