Ghana Confirms Two Citizens Killed in South Africa Xenophobic Attacks

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says two Ghanaian nationals have died during the recent wave of xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The Minister announced the development after receiving updates through Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Pretoria. He said the government continues to work closely with South African authorities on the matter.

According to Ablakwa, Ghana has verified the deaths of the two citizens following investigations by the country’s diplomatic officials.

He said government representatives have contacted the affected families. The Ministry is also providing consular support throughout the process.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said it remains in constant communication with South African authorities.

Officials are working to support investigations and facilitate the necessary consular arrangements. The Ministry has also continued engaging Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria.

According to the Ministry, one victim’s remains have already been returned to Ghana. Officials are making arrangements for the repatriation of the second victim. Government representatives say they will continue supporting the affected families.

The deaths have renewed concern over attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa. Incidents of xenophobic violence have affected migrants from several African countries over the years.

Regional leaders have repeatedly called for stronger protection for migrants living and working across the continent.

The Ghanaian government has urged authorities to ensure the safety of all foreign nationals.

Officials have also encouraged Ghanaians living abroad to remain vigilant and cooperate with local authorities whenever necessary. The Ministry says protecting Ghanaian citizens overseas remains a priority.

The latest incident has sparked renewed discussions about regional cooperation and the protection of African migrants.

Governments across the continent have continued to stress the importance of peaceful coexistence and respect for the rights of foreign residents.

Diplomatic engagement is expected to continue as investigations into the attacks proceed.
